RDA Dancers Participate In Master Classes And Scholarship Competitions

It was another opportunity to dance, learn, and even receive a scholarship. Every year, the Colorado Springs Dance Theatre (CSDT) invites all intermediate and above level dance students, ages 11-18 within the Pikes Peak Region, to apply to compete in the following two competitions: The Jazz Master Class & Scholarship Competition and the Esther Geoffrey Young Dancers’ Scholarship Competition. The event is named after Esther Geoffrey, a dancer who performed in Broadway musicals and operettas in New York City during the 1940’s.

Both events provide a 90-minute Master Class. Those who took part in the competitions were judged on technical proficiency and performance potential. This year’s Master Class Teachers were from the prestigious KEIGWIN+COMPANY and Ailey II. Both professional dance groups then performed to sold-out audiences at the new Ent Center for the Arts in Colorado Springs.

CONGRATULATIONS to RDA Company dancer, Gabriella Rae (15), who won a $250 scholarship in the Jazz Competition and Youth Company dancer, Nicole Hamilton (11), who won a $100 scholarship in the Ballet Competition!

“There comes a moment in a young artist’s life when he knows he has to bring something to the stage from within himself. He has to put in something in order to be able to take something out.”

— Mikhail Baryshnikov
